Throughout this column, Matt Miller
portrays a sarcastic tone. Matt starts off his column by arguing “The president’s
health-care plan obviously has to be further implemented in ways that fulfill
its promise and erase memories of its awful launch. And with luck, President
Obama may get some version of immigration reform and a hike in the minimum wage”.
Miller is a liberal who is not a fan of Obama but he still respects and
understands the need for the government. Miller also presents a mocking tone
towards republicans by theorizing “So long as the Republicans hold the House
and can filibuster most things in the senate, there is no chance for Obama to
do anything meaningful about upward mobility, extreme inequality, and economic
security” and Miller also adds “Rather than beat his head against a republican
wall, Obama would instead lead a set of vital national conservations on our chief
economic challenges and promising solutions”. The author is against republicans
and throughout his article he attacks them by using sarcastic and mocking tones
to convey his true message.
