Matt Miller discusses Obama’s upcoming State of the Union Address. The audience would need to know the background information on Obama’s previous State of the Union Address in order to understand the author’s subject. Matt argues that Obama’s plan for a “year of action” is a washed up idea since “There’s just one problem. With Obama at 40 percent in the polls and unable to enact big new laws, the “action” part seems hyped from the start.” Obama’s new plan as well as others stated in his last State of the Union Address like "Winning the future"(2011) and "An America built to last"(2012) has vanished. Miller goes on to state “Instead of slapping some sure-to-be-forgotten label on a grab bag full of small bore ideas, why not use the unique public attention this event still commands to rally the nation around a few big goals, even if the political lineup won’t permit their realization this year.” The author knows that Obama has left some promises empty and he would like to try and fulfill new promises but with a little help from reality. Some of Obama’s plans are unrealistic so Miller gives him an outline of what Obama should speak about in his address. Miller is concerned about the future because of Obama's empty promises from his previous State of the Union Address and this goes along with the community because the President is talking about the American people and his plans for where they live.
